Hi Amber

My name is Tom. I live in Kansas. I'm married. tomhipp at gmail (dot) com

The guy who cut the trailer for 'southland tales' did a great job.

He took the worst movie I’ve ever seen (ever. by far the worst.) and made a trailer that compelled me to rent it. well done.

Watchmen

I just finished the “greatest graphic novel of all time”: Watchmen. I was very impressed. It was awesome.

But, I’m hesitant about this motion picture adaptation. The book is grounded in reality - there are a few fantastical elements, but not much. The film looks like a CGI - cliche comic book specticle, not the dark gritty crime story the novel is.

Also, it’s too much material to pack into one feature film. Upon much reflection, I decided the best way to adapt this to screen would be in a big budget, HBO TV mini-series. Every chapter, including the story-within-a-story and the supplemental material, would comprise a one-hour episode.

That would be awesome. Now I’m just disappointed in the film. But I’ll probably go see it anyway.

Dylan in Concert

It was awesome, don’t get me wrong, but I think I understood three lines of lyrics the whole night.

it's the little lady's birthday

Yesterday I spent an hour at the mall and it was way too long. From now on, when my wife starts a sentence ‘I want…’ or ‘I think I want…’, I’m writing it down.

I like it when a simile is mentioned accidentally in reference to itself, thus proving its usefullness and vitality.

Example:

Earlier today, I had to sweep up a room full of goose down feathers (possibly redundant). As I was working, I noticed they were very difficult to sweep - the air kept catching them, and they’d fly this way and that. Getting them to go in any one direction was a challenge.

I thought to myself ‘these things are as light as a feather!’.

awesome.
awesome.

Las Vegas Betting Talley: Final Update

On the last night I go for broke, and live up to the name.

Immediately lose $50 in war. Then lose $40 in video poker. I move to the craps tables, and lost $132. Not a good night. This leaves me with $18 (I had $73 from the night before, plus I added another $150 at the craps tables.)

Then I add another $20 into video poker, and lose it.

In the end, I take my last $18 and bet it all on war. I win. I bet that, I win again. I’m now up to $72. I bet again, and lose.

Total night’s losses: $263.
Cumulative Score: $-324.
Entertained: Yes.
Winner: No.
